SPORTS THERAPY

WHAT IS SPORTS THERAPY?

Sports Therapy is an aspect of healthcare that is specifically concerned with the treatment and prevention of injury and rehabilitation of the client back to optimum levels of functional, occupational and sports specific fitness, regardless of age and ability.

It utilises the principles of sport and exercise science, incorporating physiological and pathological processes to prepare the participant for training, competition and where applicable, work - definition from The Society of Sports Therapists.

SPORTS THERAPY IS NOT JUST ABOUT SPORTS MASSAGE - However, Sports Therapists will possess massage skills that are an integral part of their scope of practice.

SPORTS THERAPISTS ARE NOT PHYSIOTHERAPISTS - But Sports Therapists will apply many “physiotherapy” skills and modalities and treat injuries by physical methods including massage, heat treatment, electrotherapy, and corrective exercise, but in a sport and exercise perspective rather than a traditional healthcare context.

SPORTS THERAPISTS ARE NOT JUST FIRST AIDERS - More significantly they are first responders who have the training, knowledge, and skills to provide immediate first response care in pitch side and sporting environments. Members of The Society of Sports Therapists are also required to show evidence that they are up to date with these skills, on an annual basis, in order to renew their membership.

As a Sports Therapist, Chloe has spent many years working with both sporting and non-sporting people and their injuries, helping people from all walks of life with both common and unusual or complex injuries and conditions.

Perhaps you have an old or recent injury, a chronic condition, or you don’t know, but it’s not comfortable.

We start with a verbal assessment of your pain, talking about your background, and lifestyle and any contributing factors to your aches and pains. Then we will carry out a physical examination assessing the area of pain. From there we can identify what is causing your pain and devise a treatment plan for you.

We keep it simple, work through these steps for a full and complete recovery.  Try to skip a step and rush and you’ll end up frustrated. You can’t cheat the system, and that is why we are here to help. Sometimes it can be frustrating working your way through healing, but we’ll guide you through, teach you the principals and equip you with the tools to manage your body and your recovery and prevent the pain from returning.
